Okay, I’m in. I wonder how long those movies will take to show up on D+. I wanted to watch the new Mary Poppins movie, but it’s not available until 2022 or something ridiculous like that. I suppose Disney has contracts with movie theaters for exclusive showings. If this film, or others like it, came straight to streaming, the theaters would sell a lot fewer tickets.

i think mary poppins returns is on netflix hence why itll take a while before its on disney+, same reason why infinity war isnt on there but endgame is. disney didn’t want to break its contracts with netflix but would rather just let them expire

Correct, it’s on Netflix. Last I read, all remaining Disney properties on Netflix will make their way over to D+ within the next year. They may have changed it...

Yup. Just checked that. Have you ever read P. L. Travers’ original books? They are wonderful. Much better than the Disney-fied movies. P.L. Travers is a pen name , btw.

Nope, I didn’t even know that the story started out as a novel. I thought it was always Julie Andrews and Dick VanDyke.

Nope. There is a series of books, not sure I’d call them “novels.” Very good stuff.

saving mr. banks was also a great film

Haven’t seen it, but my take on the original MP movie was that it was more about the father than it was about the kids. He’s the one who gets rescued from his terrible life of servitude to the bank and learns how to be a kid again.

id recommend it, its all about Walt Disney trying to court P.L. Travelers to allow him to produce the first mary poppins movie based on her books. Tom Hanks plays walt disney

“ I used to have nothing until I left the Soviet Union” sounds like capitalist propaganda but ok

Does it just cover how Disney talked her into letting him make the movie, or does it cover how much Travers hated the film ?

both

I really like Scarlett in other stuff, but this piece of casting has always baffled me. I can watch the Avengers movies and buy into the other characters, but my willing suspension of disbelief misfires on her as Black Widow. I’m not entirely sure why. I t’s not a comic book thing, because I haven’t read any of them.

Started reading them with my daughter, along with the actual Winnie The Pooh stories (i.e. not the Disney novelization). The level of hidden snark and “adult” oriented humor is off the charts on both, and they are absolutely hilarious. I highly recommend ditching the Disney books and going for the originals on both counts.

I have read the originals and heartily agree
